I am happy to be returning to Briar Woods High School for my 8th year and I am very excited to be teaching 9 Honors, AP Literature and Photojournalism. I am what is called a “career-switcher” which means that I have arrived here after having worked many years outside of the public education field.
Before getting my teaching certificate for public schools in Virginia, I taught computer software to adults, Italian to college students at Indiana University, and English to students at a private school in Italy. I have always had a passion for teaching and a great love of literature and writing, and I come to you with my BA from Mary Washington University and my MA from Indiana University.
I like the computer because of the possibilities it gives us to research and to share our thoughts. But, it cannot think for us. In fact, it is indeed through the creativity of the humanities that scientists, for example, find direction. Think of Frankenstein, of Ender's Game, to name only two.
Finally, it is my firm belief that literature can reach all people and touch all emotions, and that we should explore the human, historical, and global perspectives of the books we choose to read.
I am also the yearbook adviser! I am very proud to have the opportunity to partner with Jostens and LifeTouch and work with our young adults to record these enduring moments in their history.
On a personal note, many of you might know me through my four children: Nicholas, Sebastian, Mitchell, and Charlotte.
